An 1891 issue of the North Carolina University Magazine published by the students of what is currently the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This periodical was from the papers of W. C. Smith, who highlights a section on p. 168 which reveals that Dr. Charles Duncan McIver was considered a candidate for the presidency of the University of North Carolina following the resignation of Dr. Kemp P. Battle in 1891 to become Alumni Professor of History.
