Williams, William Appleman
Description
Sending comments and criticisms of Wasserman's manuscript for his book, "America Born & Reborn." Williams thinks Wasserman's periodization scheme works some of the time, but disagrees with his use of the term and concept of "American Reign of Terror," has reservations with some characterizations of the Civil War and slavery, argues for better coverage of John Quincy Adams and John Calhoun, and is "dumbfounded" with the "truly feeble" confrontation with Lincoln. He finally suggests that Wasserman could cut a third of the manuscript, and that he be ruthless with revisions.
