Montgomery, Lucile

Description

This folder contains Bob Moses' and others' reports on the murder of Louis Allen on the eve of his departure for Wisconsin--perhaps the precipitating event for the Mississippi Summer Project--and about the related cross burnings, house and business bombings, and other threats to local African Americans by Amite County Sheriff Daniel Jones to leave town immediately. A form letter details Freedom Summer violence in McComb and appeals for federal protection. It includes a running summary of McComb incidents from June-September 1964. Lucy Montgomery's rough notes for a fundraiser and for obtaining Freedom Singer records are also in this folder.
