Description
Image of a Ninevian pipe dating to the 1850s, which was uncovered during an archaeological excavation conducted between 1989 and 1991 at the Springfield site near Augusta, Georgia. The pipe is carved in the figure of a bearded man's head. A small scale at the bottom indicates that the pipe is approximately four centimeters wide and six centimeters tall.The Springfield village was populated by free blacks before the end of slavery in 1865.
