In this interview, Bill Clement discusses his education, his work with the Action Forum, and his work with corporations like Coca-Cola and Home Depot. He talks about MARTA and the Olympic Games. He also discusses his work with the Carter administration, as part of the Small Business Administration. He describes local leaders like Julian Bond, Lonnie King, and their efforts in organizing the civil rights movement. He also discusses his own role in the civil rights movement, with student movements and protest demonstrations throughout the 1960s and 70s. He also talks about his work with the Dobbs, Ram & Company construction company. Finally, he discusses Andy Young, the Opportunity Funding Corporation, and local governance.William Clement is the former president and CEO of the Atlanta Life Insurance Company, as well as the Dobbs, Ram and Company. Clement worked as a credit analyst for NCNB Corporation (predecessor to Bank of America) in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a registered representative for Bache & Company as well as a representative for The Robinson-Humphrey Company prior to becoming vice president and senior loan officer of Citizens Trust Bank in 1973. In 1977, Clement was a political appointee in the Carter Administration and served as an associate administrator of the United States Small Business Administration. Clement has been active in numerous civic and community organizations.
