Description

Pictured here in a Cleveland Browns uniform, Jim Brown (1936- ) played exclusively with the Browns in his nine-year National Football League career (1957-1965), displaying an unparalleled combination of power and speed, and never missing a game. In college, he was a multi-sport athlete at Syracuse University, where he was named first-team All-American in both football and lacrosse in his senior year. He also excelled in basketball and track at Syracuse. With the Browns, he rushed for 12,312 yards in his career, and scored 126 touchdowns, including 106 rushing touchdowns. In 1963, he rushed for 1,863 yards, an NFL record at the time, and still 12th best of all-time, despite the fact that he played 12- and 14-game seasons in his career, vs. the current format of 16 games, which began in 1978. Also in 1963, he averaged an incredible 6.4 yards per carry. Brown’s career rushing average of 5.2 yards per carry is the best among running backs. He was a Pro Bowl selection in each of his nine years, made first team All-Pro in eight of those years, and was second team All-Pro in the other. He was the most valuable player in the NFL three times, and voted onto the NFL 1960s All-Decade team, as well as being named to the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. He won a championship with the Browns in 1964. After his football-playing days, he had a successful acting career, including roles in such films as The Dirty Dozen and Ice Station...
