Description

Famous Negro League baseball catcher Josh Gibson in his catchers equipment standing at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. He is wearing a white uniform with the letters G and S visible on either side of his chest protector. Gibson played for the Homestead Grays (1929-'31, '37-'40, '42-'46), the Pittsburgh Crawfords ('32-'36), Santo Domingo('37), and the Mexican League ('40-'41). He was born in 1911 and died young at the age of 35 in 1947. In 1972 he was the second Negro League player to be elected into the Baseball Hall Of Fame. There is an umpire and light tower in background. Ca. 1930-1946.
