Left to right: Dr. Olive Woodruff (Kent State University), Mrs. Helen Maxwell (sorority president), Dr. Zelma George, at the national convention of Phi Delta Kappa, where Zelma George received an award from the national sorority. Dr. Zelma Watson George (1903-1994) served on the US delegation to the United Nations from 1960-1961. From 1966-1974 she was director of the Cleveland Jobs Corp. A trained singer and musician, she received a Rockefeller Foundation grant to research African American music, which brought her to Cleveland to study materials in the Cleveland Public Library John G. White Collection. In Cleveland she met, and in 1944 married, attorney Clayborne George.
