Description

Holograph, signed.Abby Kelley Foster expresses her gratitude for the faithfulness to the anti-slavery cause of Edmund Quincy and Maria Weston Chapman; Foster refers to their vigilance in the face of the "enemy" [the Third Party]. Foster wrote to Chapman: "You are more hated than any of the rest of us." She reports on the campaign in Ohio and the opposition from the Liberty Party. She complains of [Gamaliel] Bailey, who refuses to advertise Maria W. Chapman's meetings, and is "very sore at the loss of Samuel Brook[e] ...Sam'l gets more subscribers than any man I ever knew." [Gamaliel Bailey was the editor of the Philanthropist.] Tells of a projected tour in Ohio and to Pittsburgh.On page one of this letter, one paragraph has been crossed out, with this explanation, "Marked out by me (H. Weston) strictly personal nothing about the A.S. [Anti-Slavery] Cause."The bottom part of page 3 of this manuscript has been cut off and removed.
