Description

Born in Topeka, Kansas, Edythe Pane began playing piano at age three. In 1900 she moved to Spokane, where she married Floyd Turnham when she was about 18. She created a vaudeville act that toured the Northwest. In the early 1920s she put together a five-piece band that initially included her sister Maggie as an entertainer. Other members of the group were Floyd Turnham Sr. (drums), Floyd Turnham Jr. (sax), and Charlie Adams (trumpet). They played all along the west coast and on President Line steamship cruises. The band finally settled in southern California, where they renamed themselves the Dixie Aces.
