Description

Boat tied up on shore with "Jones Lake Recreational Area" painted on the side, circa 1942. Jones Lake State Park opened in the summer of 1939 as the first state park for African Americans, and achieved immediate popularity. In later years the park, like all other North Carolina State Parks, became fully integrated.
