Illustration of Herschel Johnson. He is depicted wearing a suit, vest, and tie. Johnson led the Georgia state constitutional convention in 1865 in Milledgeville following the Civil War. Delegates to the convention drafted a new constitution that made several amendments, including the abolition of slavery, to the 1861 constitution.
