Rutledge recounting the details of the death of Robert Rutledge at Drury's Bluff, Virginia.[Page 1] “Camp 63d Tenn Regt Near Richmond Virginia Jun 14th 1864 Mr G P Rutledge Griffin Ga Dear Sir No doubt you have long ere this heard the melancholey tidings that you were deprived of an affectionate and worthey son & your Family of a fond and loving brother, in the severe engagement of the 16th May when Southern chivalry charged the Enemy from a strong & splendidly entrenched position at the Bluff (Drurys) I write not to give a history of battles but simply to inform you of the last moments of your son Capt. Rob. Rutledge as I had it from our minister who was with him in his last moments. I saw and conversed with Rob the evening before the fight He was quite cherful” [Page 2] “and said he was glad he had come to Va.
