Description
Bond dated June 3, 1856 accounting for a bill of sale for a Negro slave named Jane and her two children, Jerry, Julia, Isabella and her two children, and Levi sold by Alexander L. Mackey to Myers Pierce and Seth W. Warfield, all of Howard County, Maryland. The bond is in the amount of $10,000. Witnessed by Th. (Thomas) Donaldson, Wm. H. (William H.) Worthington, and Justice of the Peace Wm. (William) Allen and recorded by Howard County clerk W. H. Worthington, the document gives an explanation for the bond provided by Myers and Warfield to Alexander L. Mackey (as guardian of Mary L., Zuleka D., William D. and John W. D. Mackey) and identifies crops of corn and wheat sold to secure the bond, including several Negro slaves: Jane and her two children, Julia, Isabella and her two children, and Levi. The money obtained from the sale of Jerry is to be invested per court order. (Editor's note: Blank page 3 was not scanned and thus is not included.)
