Encyclopedia article about Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King, Jr., the most prominent leader of the civil rights movement, who died on January 30, 2006, at the age of seventy-eight. She graduated from Antioch College in Ohio and trained at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. After her husband's death King continued his legacy as an activist and peacemaker. She founded the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta.
