Description
Martin Luther King, Jr., also spoke at the gathering. King and Joseph Lowery are seated behind Williams (though King's face is not visible), and Edward Gardner is seated to the left of the podium. The photograph was shot from the balcony, and the image is dark and slightly damaged. It was taken for (but not used in) the article and photo spread "Rallying Support for Poor People's Stay in Washington," which appeared on page 3 of The Southern Courier for February 24-25, 1968. The issue is available online (not on the ADAH website): http://www.southerncourier.org/low-res/Vol4_No08_1968_02_24.pdf
