Diane Conway is interviewed by Evelyn Bailey. Conway speaks to the experiences of growing up as an African American lesbian and leaving home at the age of sixteen. She was a member of the Gay Alliance Youth Group in the mid 1980s. Conway reveals that she learned of the youth group from a listing in the Empty Closet. She discusses her relationship with her family and the importance of upbringing and education. Conway talks about her friends in the community from local stores as well as universities such as the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology. Conway also discusses the issues with non-inclusivity and the difficulties of being a gay woman-of-color. She briefly talks about SUITS (Sisters United in Two Spirits) which she formed alongside a Native American friend.
