Description

voice Collected by Max Hunter (H-12) For Mary C. Parler Transcribed by Frances Majors Sung by Arlie Lynch Route 5, Rogers, Arkansas August 13, 1958 Reel 255-56, Item 24 Little Yellow Gal There's a little log cabin way down in Tennessee, Where the morning glories twine around the door; There's a little yellow gal, she's a-waiting there for me, She's been my lady friend a year or more. When we were ninapickees*very long ago We used to play together on the sand; Every Sunday evening as the sun was setting low, I'd tell her, as I held her little hand: Chorus: Honey, you more than one, Be cast and be gized upon Give me your little brown hand; We'll live on pork and kisses If you will be my misses, Honey, does you love your man? She's the prettiest little darkie that I ever run across, I dream most about her every night; She's the color of a saddle on a sorrel race horse, Couldn't love her any more if she was white. I'm saving up my money for to marry her And I'll quit fooling with the dice; Every penny that I get I take and give to her And then I have to tell her once or twice: (Chorus) * Probably "pickanny" Funding for digitization provided by the Arkansas Humanities Council and the Happy Hollow Foundation.
