Description
Harvey Gantt delivers a campaign speech in Burlington, Alamance County, North Carolina. Gantt discusses his kitchen table issues, including supporting children and students, job security, and how the federal government can be on the side of citizens. He says that government needs to fund Head Start and tax deductions for college tuition. He criticizes his opponent, Jesse Helms, for voting against federal involvement in education, voting for tax credits for companies, and calling Medicare and Social Security welfare programs. Gantt continues, saying that Helms votes for corporate welfare, the National Council for Senior Citizens says that Helms has the worst voting record on seniors, the Helms Foundation gets donations from multinational corporations and foreign governments, and Helms doesn't talk to NC citizens and refuses to debate. Gantt concludes by encouraging the audience to vote and to get other people to vote. Speech followed by a question and answer session, with topics including Social Security.
