Description
In the first telegram, Alabama Council of Defense chairman Lloyd M. Hooper notifies the commanding officer of Camp Sherman, Ohio, that Hix is being held in jail in Union Springs, Alabama, after deserting his company. A letter from Bullock County Council of Defense chairman Cliff W. Stewart to Hooper notes that M. J. Eley of Union Springs "went 16 or 17 miles in the country in an automobile" to capture Hix. In a following letter, Hooper advises Stewart that Eley should transport Hix to Camp Sheridan near Montgomery, Alabama, to collect a $50 reward.
