Description
Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Richard Davis Webb writes to Mary Anne Estlin in regards to receiving a cheap edition of "Uncle Tom's Cabin." Maria Webb and "the ladies in her train are quite in a furor" over the idea. He wishes people would buy and read the Anti-Slavery Advocate instead. He praises the "Pennsylvania Freeman." He discusses his daughter's school careers briefly. A second letter dated Dec[ember] 24, 1852 in Boston discussing Mr. Moore accepting the volume of tickets given to him by Ms. Weston and asks her to accept his thanks. He also gives his best wishes for the classes she is engaged in. He says, "May the 'Liberty Bell' awaken all those who have been slumbering to a just sense of their duty in the cause of freedom."
