Description

Holograph, signed with initialsAbby Kelley Foster reminds Maria Weston Chapman of the trials of 1839, 1840, and 1841 in Massachusetts. Abby K. Foster says: "We are living these trials over again in Ohio today." Abby K. Foster and her husband, Stephen S. Foster, have concentrated on obtaining enough subscriptions for the Bugle to insure its support. Abby K. Foster says: "Indeed, considering it is just before the biennial election for the state and congress, I am astonished at our success---None of the political parties can create any enthusiasm---And hundreds are coming fully into the disunion ranks on principle, ..." Nevertheless, the third party vote may be larger here than ever before. Abby K. Foster feels confident it will be safe to leave in October. Where to go next---western New York or Massachusetts? She suggests "flooding the [Massachusetts] Legislature with remonstrances against the Union."
