Description

Nigerian writer, Kanchana Ugbabe discusses her Indian heritage and living in Nigeria. She states that she is most interested in the experiences of people living in cross-cultural homes. She reads an excerpt of a short story and explains the struggles women living in cross-cultural homes must endure. Ugbabe also discusses her attraction to the work of Toni Morrison; the empowering nature of contemporary African women's writing and feeling out of her element when she visits India. Peter Nazareth, a native of Uganda, is a Professor of English and African-American World Studies at the University of Iowa. Since 1974, he has been advisor to the University's International Writing Program, which brings writers from around the world to the University of Iowa for semester-long residencies. Over the span of more than thirty years, Nazareth has recorded interviews, seminars, and panel discussions with IWP writers conducted in various settings, including "Humanities at Iowa", a 1980s radio show that aired on WSUI/KSUI.
