St. Pierre discusses his upbringing in Chatham and Amherst, Massachusetts; education at University of Massachusetts, Amherst class of 1989; early experiences smoking marijuana; his early employment at NORML in 1991; conflicts among NORML Board members and employees; Richard Cowan and his work for NORML; Jon Gettman; the technological advances of NORML; the establishment of the Marijuana Policy Project; the legalization of marijuana in the late 2000s; the influence of hip hop culture and High Times magazine on the acceptance of marijuana; the reluctance of black Americans to join the marijuana reform movement.
