Description

This collection includes a variety of material types that document the activities of the Academy of Black Culture, Inc. and the Savannah Model Cities Program. Comprising the bulk of the collection is a set of 39 black/white and color photographs that date from 1970-1971 and 63 negatives without matching photos. These depict volunteers in action, some photographs of the poverty of the Model Cities area, and meetings and people involved in the program. Two pamphlets outline the goals, aims, and courses/ project offered for both the Academy and Model cities. Of note in the Academy brochure is the mention of the LeRoy Ladson Memorial Library, which is "the only African/African American Community Library in the city of Savannah." There is one detailed class description, the "Me Nobody Knows" with an accompanying bibliography of resources from May 1969. There are three different published pamphlets (1971) by LeRoy Haven's Creative Writing classes, 1971.
