Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. Lauderdale County

Description

This folder contains WATS line summaries, presumably from the Atlanta SNCC office, and cover all states in which volunteers were working during March to April of 1965. March reports primarily detail the marches and violence in Selma and Montgomery, Alabama. Reports discuss the marches, picketlines, injuries and death to civil rights workers as well as the friction between SNCC leaders and SCLC leaders in Alabama. Of note are reports of picketing and sit-ins around the White House in order to get President Johnson's attention. Other reports discuss protest and integration attempts in other cities, such as Little Rock, Arkansas. Messages of solidarity from northern friends and partners are also reported.
