View of Arthur Langford (center, holding sign), head of the United Youth Adult Conference, in his office in Atlanta, Georgia with unidentified staff members.Arthur Langford Jr. (d. 1994) was elected to the Atlanta City Council at the age of twenty-three. He served on the Council for eight years before becoming a Georgia State Senator in 1984. He served in the Senate until he passed away in 1994. In 1972, as a student as Morris Brown College, Langford established the United Youth Adult Conference, an organization that worked, in part, to reduce violence and the drug trade in low-income neighborhoods. Langford also served as an associate minister at the West Hunter Street Baptist Church.
