Typed transcriptRobert Bernard Hall observes a change in the local attitude toward colonization. He tells of a debate on colonization in which he took part. After Rev. Leonard Bacon made an address, Hall responded by quoting William Lloyd Garrison. Hall writes that "Bro. [Jocelyn goes] to New York to attend a meeting about Dennison's paper, the Emancipator." He mentions a clergyman named Cleaveland who spoke in support of Garrison's views at another debate with the colonizationists. Arthur Tappan "came up from New York and made a speech."
