Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in pencil on white paper with a faint embossed logo in the head- spine corner of the first page. Also in the head- spine corner, a small checkmark and the number "5" are both drawn in pencil.George Thompson writes to William Lloyd Garrison after arriving in Providence at the home of "Mr. Davis". He discusses his plans to lecture in the city and tells Garrison that he was "aroused from my slumbers by the strains of a very sweet music from a band of wind instruments performing under my window. The quire consisted of colored friends, who had chosen this mode of giving me a greeting." Thompson also relates that he "long[s] very much for the pleasure of your & Mrs. Garrison's company" and encourages them to travel with him when he goes back to Boston on his way to Springfield.
