Description

This is the second interview with Luther Mason. Among the topics focused upon in this interview are his experiences as a young boy on his father's farm in Scott County, Kentucky. He discusses changes in farm practices, such as the use of horses for traction, use of pesticides, the practice of preparing tobacco plant beds through burning, using the signs of the zodiac, food preservation, the use of farm cooperative services, and the nature of veterinary services. He also talks about one-room schools, school consolidation, changes in church life and the decline of the country store.This item has been aggregated as part of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL)'s "Deeply Rooted: The Agricultural & Rural History of the American South" project.
