Oral history interview with C. Bernard Ruffin, an African-American writer and D.C. native. He tells about his childhood in the U Street area where his father was a beat cop and leader in the local Police Boys' Club and his aunts were teachers at a local high school. He also dicusses his education, his experiences of segregation, and the changing character of the U Street community throughout his lifetime.C.
