Bradford, Samuel

Description

Bill of accounting dated December 8, 1848 for services rendered by a Negro slave named Harry loaned by Samuel Bradford of Baltimore City, Maryland to Charles G. Hanson of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Witnessed by Justice of the Peace D. C. Bordley in Baltimore City, the document shows how much Hanson still owes Bradford. Charles G. Hanson then appeared before Justice of the Peace Jno. H. (John H.) Worthington of the Howard District of Anne Arundel County on December 30, 1848 and confirmed the judgment against him in the amount of $74.12½. Included also are the words "superceded by M. A. Dorsey", which is again witnessed by Jno. H. (John H.) Worthington. (Editor's note: During this time period, Howard County was known as the Howard District of Anne Arundel County. Howard County was officially designated a county in 1851. What the other comments on the document mean is not clear.)
