She was struck by shot 59 times, her pilot was killed and flag officer Foote was injured in the pilot house. She participated in the capture of Fort Henry, going into action while lashed to the Carondelet. She was struck seven times. She saw service with Admiral Porter through the entire Vicksburg operation. On June 6, 1862 she was part of the fleet under Davis at the battle for Memphis.
