The July 1944 to June 1945 files include the correspondences of N. C. Newbold, the director of the Division of Cooperation in Education and Race Relations. The division worked to provide information on African American history and their lives in the south. Division members worked within the separate but equal philosophy. The subjects include curricula, funding, staffing and interracial education services at universities and schools in North Carolina. Correspondences detail conference and guest lecture organization, meeting plans, and information concerning African American literature, history, and life in North Carolina. Also included are minutes from division meetings.
