Description

Research in ProgressIllustration for a Knopf edition (unpublished) of Carl van Vechten's controversial novel, Nigger Heaven, originally published in 1926. An aerial view of a busy city street, depicted at night. Buildings on either side of the street are adorned with bright lights, perhaps suggesting that they are theaters, or jazz clubs. Lining the street on either side, figures are depicted in wavy silhouette in blue and black.
