Description
According to Earle, "Rose Hill" was built in 1782. Located "at Abingdon, the home of Col. Charles Sewell, is an interesting old brick house." In 1929 there were still many family heirlooms in the home owned by the great-grandson, Mr. William H. Sewell. In addition, the home contains a "family graveyard ... surrounded by a wall." Of peculiar interest is a trench dug "entirely around his several thousand acres of land" by slaves which was "still ... discernible after more than 100 years."
