Description

Research in ProgressIllustration for a Knopf edition (unpublished) of Carl van Vechten's controversial novel, Nigger Heaven, originally published in 1926. At bottom left corner, two figures (one in a black suit, and the other in a red dress) walk into the lit doorway of a two-story building. The building has a sign across its facade, which reads: BLACK VENUS. Above, a third figure leans out the window, their head resting in one hand.
