Description

Correspondence between Mayor Kevin White and a woman from Marshfield, Massachusetts who does not feel that busing should be an issue for her town. She feels that it would be "categorically ridiculous" to bus children 36 miles from Marshfield to Boston to balance the schools. The mayor responded that while busing should not be an important issue for Marshfield, the town asked for and received nearly $1 million dollars in Federal funds in 1973 to develop a 10-year plan to voluntarily desegregate the schools in the entire Metropolitan area. The mayor goes on to state that if Marshfield were to be involved in the busing plan, it would be to allow Boston children to be bused to their schools.
