Description

It was common practice in the 19th century to call a "convention" to hear the reading of a momentous statement. In this case The Emancipation Proclamation. On January 5th, 1863, Frederick Douglas spoke at the Baptist Church on Hamilton Street on the subject of emancipation. The event was sponsered by the Friends of Freedom of Albany County.
