Deed of manumission dated September 1, 1858 by Amelia Harding of Howard County, Maryland for her Negro slaves named Caroline, Henry, John Henry, and Richard. Witnessed by Rezin H. Hipsley and Justice of the Peace Isc. (Isaac) Ridgely and recorded by Howard County clerk W. W. Watkins, the document identifies each slave by name, age, and age to be set free: Caroline age 35 years, to be set free when she reaches age 43 years; Henry age 33 years, to be set free when he reaches age 41 years; John Henry age 20 years, to be set free when he reaches age 41 years; and Richard age 31 years, to be set free when he reaches age 41 years.
