Daughters of Isis McHie, Beneta Amelia Horton Regalia House Tendle, Marjorie

Description

White fez with hand-set rhinestones and a black tassel on brown plastic mount, used by Beneta McHie, a Saint Paul-born woman from a prominent African American family. McHie was heavily involved in the education of women and minorities and social justice issues. The front of the fez reads, in hand-set rhinestones, "FEZZAN / 7" over a rhinestone and fabric depiction of the head of the Egyptian goddess Isis. The interior label reads, in part: "THE HORTON REGALIA HOUSE / 5022 WASHBURN AVE. NO. / MPLS [...] / Marjorie Tendle / 599 St. Anthony / St. Paul [...]". McHie may have received the fez from Tendle; both lived in the Rondo neighborhood in Saint Paul.
