Photograph of the interior of the Clark Atlanta University Art Galleries, which are located in Trevor Arnett Hall on the campus of Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, Georgia. Four aquamarine-colored pedestals holding sculptures stand on the golden hardwood floor. Several interior walls form an inner room in the center of the large gallery. Paintings hang in the room, which has white walls that contrast with the blue-green accent wall in the center of the photograph.Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta has a long-established tradition in promoting the visual arts. Under the direction of one of Georgia's first college professors of art, Hale Woodruff (1900-1980), the university hosted national exhibitions (1942-70) for African American artists who were excluded from public and cultural institutions because of segregation.
