Description

Photograph taken looking north at the east side of the 300 block North Caroline Street from its intersection with Mullikin Street in Baltimore, Maryland. This block consists of several two- and three-story brick row houses. On the first floor of the corner house at number 301 North Caroline is Collin's Restaurant, which features home cooking, ice cream, and candies. Advertisements of such soda brands as Coca-Cola, Seven-Up, Royal Crown, Sun Spot, and Pepsi-Cola can be seen in the front window and on the front door and walls. On its front wall above is a sign for Malone, Inc., ice cream and candy manufacturers; and on its side wall is a painted advertisement for Malone's Candy Factory Retail No. 1. At the other end of the block can be seen what looks like an abandoned building, perhaps a former restaurant. Its front outer walls bear numerous advertisements for such California wines as Golden Rule and Madeira. In the middle of the block is a car bearing Maryland license tag 100-826. On Mullikin Street is another parked car. It sits in front of a doorway over which is hanging a homemade sign with a fish drawn between the words Orlean and Market. The roadway for Mullikin is made of cobblestones, whereas that for Caroline Street is paved. Tracks are embedded in the roadway along Caroline Street, and electric lines for streetcars are suspended above the center of the street. (Waldeck photograph 33.)
