This video has pictures of some past and present members of the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church which is located at the corner of Route 94 and Jackson Avenue in the town of Cornwall, New York. (The highway was originally called Route 45.) Then the video, filmed in 2014, shows a group of church members sitting around a table and reminiscing about events in the life of the church. Bethlehem Presbyterian Church was established in 1729, but the present building was built in 1828. The original families of the church were Satterlys, Moffats, Dennistons, Chase, Van Duzer, Roe and other names found in the history books written about the area. The people taking part in the discussion are: Sue Schaefer, Irene Sauer, Betty Walker, Bill Satterly, Peg Satterly and Karen Satterly Staples. Mrs. Sauer gave a short history of the Hope Chapel which is in Salisbury Mills. It was always a part of the Bethlehem Church. The Chapel was built in 1879 and was given to the Church by Mr. Thomas Dubias (spelling?) It was built to accommodate the children of Salisbury Mills whose parents worked in the mill. One of the stories they told was about the balcony that was built so that the slaves in the area could attend church. They had to sit in the balcony and use the side door entrance. The church was torn apart by the Civil War because the congregation could not agree on whether slavery was right or wrong. Every church had the same...
