Description
This payroll acknowledges that William Thomas Hardy, Captain and Assistant Quartermaster, C. S. P. A., paid certain slave owners for work performed by their slaves at Richmond, Virginia, during December 1861. Slave owner Nathaniel Laurence provided a slave named Moses, a carpenter. Slave owner John D. Ragland provided slaves named William, Andrew, James, Brooks, Albert, and Manuel, who were all carpenters. Nathaniel Laurence acknowledged receipt of payment for himself. John D. Ragland was not paid.
