Holograph, signed.Title devised by cataloger.Elizur Wright Jr. writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding an article written in the Portland Mirror "signed by Benjamin Tappas & others warning on the borders of abolition." He writes that "the truth is, Brother, that all the residence & philanthropy and Christianity of the country has been mustered to recommend Colonization as a remedy for slavery, and now the great maj [sic] of the white population is...to carry on the benevolent work of hunting the poor colored people from the country!"
