Description

Washington: Sen. George S. McGovern claimed enough votes 6/26 for a first-ballet nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention on the basis of gaining almost 100 previously uncommitted delegates, mostly black. McGovern is shown with a group of black leaders following a news conference. Left to right are: Rep. William L. Clay (D-Mo.); Rep. Louis Stokes, D-Ohio, McGovern; District of Columbia Delegate Walter E. Fauntroy; Mrs. Coretta King, widow of the late Dr. Martin Luther King; and Henry E. Parker, a delegate from New Haven, Conn.
