Description

Film, Audio, Video and Digital ArtHumanities and Social SciencesSix different county officials are now ambling about the swap meet area—“You need to let your friend know that if he is selling here, he is selling illegally.” “it’s a violation to sell without a license.” The six officials walk to up plywood outhouse with “Keep Out” painted on front and take still photographs. The traveling shots and mobile camera are a nice change of pace visually from numerous static MS and LS on other tapes. Interview of Ernest Johnson is good, but having been at the slabs for only a couple of weeks he doesn’t have a sense of history of perspective of this situation. He is the only black at the Slabs, though strong point of this tape is how the procession of local authorities (health, law enforcement, etc.) present the seller’s area through the eyes of these people, a distinct contrast from what the sellers themselves say about things.Digital Library Development Program, UC San Diego, La Jolla, 92093-0175 (https://lib.ucsd.edu/digital-library)
