Description

Delegate's ribbon badge from the fifth annual convention of the National Afro-American Council, which was the first nationwide civil rights organization in the United States. Gold lettering on the red silk badge reads: "5th annual convention / NATIONAL AFRO-AMERICAN COUNCIL / ST. PAUL, MINN. / July 9, 10, 11, 1902." Attached at the top of the ribbon is a rectangular metal bar clasp with a foliate border and a white strip of coated paper printed "DELEGATE". Attached to the bottom of the ribbon is a metal disc with a white coated paper insert printed with a rendering of the Minnesota State Capitol.
