This folder contains a variety of documents from community organizing attempts in Gulfport, Mississippi, from 1964-1966. It begins with Rev. John Else's explanation of how his role as a clergyman takes the form of community organizing for civil rights in Gulfport; fact sheets about Gulfport and those of its industries covered by the Civil Rights Act of 1964; a blank form used by COFO workers as a form of identification; a blank Freedom Registration form; meeting minutes from "citizens' meetings" and from precinct meetings; a list of car descriptions and license plate numbers that appeared suspicious; internal COFO documents about use of the WATS telephone line and security issues; a list of members of a Lawyers Constitutional Defense Committee from New Orleans; a list of Gulfport contacts; the lease for a Gulfport building used by COFO; lists of people who attended meetings and who were going to register to vote at the courthouse; canvassing lists (filled out) from voter registration
